Drive Log

A field tool that listens to the hammer, counts the blows, and hands you the state DOT pile driving log — built for the person standing at the rig with a clipboard.

Set the phone down near the rig. Drive Log hears the hammer, counts every blow, keeps the count by the foot as you mark each one, checks the drive against the bearing criteria, and prints the finished record on your agency's own form. You leave the site with a clean log instead of a wind-blown, mud-streaked sheet to transcribe later.

It counts the blows for you

Drive Log listens to the hammer through the microphone and counts each blow as it lands — no tapping, no clicker, no losing count when the phone rings or someone asks a question. A live trace on screen shows every hit as it happens, so you can see it keeping pace with the hammer instead of trusting it blind.

Stroke is shown live for every blow and averaged by the foot, straight from the sound of the hammer, so the log carries stroke the way the form asks for it without anyone reading a gauge or guessing.

All you do is press MARK FOOT — one big glove-sized button. The phone buzzes and, if you want, speaks the foot aloud so you never have to look down. Count in feet, tenths, inches, or your own interval, and switch mid-drive when the pile slows.

The record

  • Projects, structures, substructures and piles laid out the way the plans are, with the inspector, hammer, pile type, cutoff, weather and temperature on every pile
  • Driving criteria set once per substructure — blows per foot, minimum stroke, penetration or tip elevation — and a clear meets / does not meet verdict on every pile that updates if the criteria change
  • Initial drive, redrives and restrikes on one log; splices, pile runs, fuel-setting changes, depth corrections and notes stamped where they happened
  • An editable drive log — fix a blow count or an ending depth on the phone, and the record keeps both the original and the correction. Nothing is ever silently overwritten
  • Job info for the whole form: engineers, contractors, cushion, weather and the rest, entered once and printed on every pile

The forms

Every pile exports as a PDF and as an Excel workbook on the agency's own layout — measured off the blank form, with the header, the foot-by-foot table and the notes where the form puts them. Export a structure or a whole project and the workbook comes out with one tab per pile.

Drive Log is a one-time purchase on the App Store. Pro is an optional subscription for anyone exporting more than a handful of piles a month. Prices are in US dollars; local prices are set by the App Store.

Your data stays on your device

Drive Log has no accounts, no sign-in, and no server. Every log you record is stored on your iPhone or iPad and nowhere else. The microphone is used only to hear the hammer — audio is analysed on the device as it happens and is never recorded or stored. We do not collect, transmit, sell, or share your data.
